Humanitarian Awards

The Hollywood Humanitarian Council, which is co-chaired by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and President of East Timor, Dr. Jose Ramos-Horta, "The New York Times" best selling author and founder of the Hollywood Film Festival® and Hollywood Awards®, Carlos de Abreu and Oscar winning screenwriter and director, Paul Haggis, select the recipients for the yearly Hollywood Humanitarian Awards®.

The Hollywood Humanitarian Awards®" are bestowed on individuals for his or her dedication to fighting injustices and/or creating social change for the improvement of humanity.

The Hollywood Humanitarian Awards® are presented during the prestigious Hollywood Awards® Gala Ceremony in October during the Hollywood Film Festival®.

Prior years' Hollywood Humanitarian Awards® honorees include Nobel Peace Prize winner and President of East Timor, Dr. Jose Ramos-Horta, Nobel Laureate Jody Williams, Father Rick Frechette and actor and activist Sean Penn.

Afghan soldier "kills two NATO troops" at protests

KABUL (Reuters) - An Afghan soldier joined protests on Thursday against the burning of copies of the Muslim holy book at a NATO base and shot dead two foreign troops, western military sources said.
